Tangled Prayers:
At the entrance to the shrine of Makdoom Sahib, another
Sufi saint, hundreds of wish-threads greet one. What does
one ask for? A spouse, a son, a first in exam, a cure
the
stuff of ordinary heartbreak; many ask for an end to blood-shed,
for freedom. Both Muslims and Hindus tie such threads. Can
ones thread be located? An unwritten sanction: one
unties just any thread. Perhaps the boy is stubborn and
will keep looking for his specific one. |
