Sheikh Abdullah,
the "Lion of Kashmir," is buried near the Hazratbal
shrine on the banks of the emerald Naseem Lake, his tomb
heavily guarded by Indias security forces. This
represents one of those ironies that history keeps throwing
up: the very people who jailed him now guard his tomb
and the very people whose "Lion" he was, are
disenchanted with him. Why? He compromised with Indira
Gandhi to return to power after 18 years in Indian jails.
