In
Srinagar’s interior, eighty percent of the ornate
lattice-work has been destroyed since 1990, and there
is absolutely no sense of how the past can aesthetically
contribute to the present. Almost all new construction,
sanctioned by the state, reveals no awe for tradition,
no desire to preserve.
